Work at Home Business - How I Started Mine

Being retired, you get to have a lot of time on your hands. I did volunteer work, completed my Masters in Computer Science, read, watched TV, but wanted to do something to occupy my time, plus bring in income. Having just received my Masters in Computer Science, I wanted to take advantage of it, so I started looking on the internet for a computer based home business. I found one which fit my needs perfectly.

No you will not see me on a web site clutching thousands of dollars and offering you thousands a day, while you sleep. Sure you can make money while you sleep, but only after you apply and commit yourself to the business. Also, this will not be a earn while you learn paper, which is another hype used by marketers to draw unsuspecting people in.

My initial quest for a home business did not go well at the start. I was falling for some of the numerous scams offered on the internet. After several false starts, I set some criteria that needed to be satisfied before I jumped into an on line business. This is the criteria I developed, based on experience,

1. Was the type of business you were about to get into clear on what the business is?
2. Did the site offering the business have a phone number you could call for support and was there actual support personnel there when the phone rang?
3. Could you easily opt out of the business or was there a guarantee?

The one I found that met the above criteria and would put my computer degree to work was Certified Media Placement Specialist (CMPS), which is part of Global Cash Flow Networks (GCFN). I was pretty certain that this company filled my needs. Though there were some negatives about the company, posted on the internet, the positives far exceeded the negatives.
My first criterion was met when I discussed the business I was getting into with the staff. This business does not require you to handle any merchandise, so there is no inventory to keep. As the name, CMPS, implies, you learn how to post media on the internet and learn how to drive traffic to your site. Whether it is a blog, classified ad, web page, e-commerce site, etc.

My second criterion was met by the company having excellent support. CMPS had a staff of support, available Monday through Friday, for technical and administrative purposes. After I joined, I found the staff called me about every other week, just to see how I was progressing and to see if there were any questions they could address. They always left me with a warm feeling when our conversations ended.

Before I signed up they gave me a guarantee that if I did not make my initial investment back in the first year, and that I showed that I had applied myself, they would refund my initial outlay. You can not get much better than that. This is just the guarantee I was looking for.
I have been working the internet, using the techniques I learned in CMPS for almost three months now. In the first two months, the traffic I drove to the web site GCFN provided could be counted on one hand. In the first twenty-six days of the New Year, I am averaging about one referral a day to my GCFN web site. This is a significant improvement. I expect traffic to continue to increase as time goes by.

One last criterion needed to have a successful on line business, as in any business, is to constantly apply yourself to your business. My impression of the authors, who wrote the negative reports about GCFN, is that they did not apply themselves. They expected all they had to do was sit back, do a little posting and wait for the money to roll in. It does not work that way. Not only does it take perseverance, but time also.

I have just started an internet e-commerce web site, which specializes in various gifts. Using the knowledge I have gained by becoming a CMPS, I am starting to drive traffic to my e-commerce web site. I look forward to this site providing me a good income in the future.
